Current Event Blog Guidelines
Ms. Ghoneim
As a weekly assignment and influential portion of your grade, you will
be required to research, read and
complete a current event blog. The
current event blog will be due every Friday (turned in online), unless
otherwise indicated in class.
Structure
of the Current Event Blog Post is as follows:
Paragraph 1: Summary
of Article: One paragraph of 3-5 sentences must be written
explaining what the article was about.
Answer the essential W’s of Who, What, Where, When, and Why.
For Example:
This article was about ________________.
It effects ___________________.
It happened on _______________ because ________________.
Paragraph 2:
Reflection and Commentary: One
paragraph of 3-5 sentences must be
written explaining your reaction or feelings to the article. Does the article relate to you? Did it upset you in any way? Do you agree with it? Why or why not?
For Example:
I liked/did not like this article because ___________________.
This article made me happy/angry because _____________________.
This article is relevant to me and my life because _________________.
I agree/disagree with this article because ___________________.
Essential components of your
blog to receive full credit:
1. May not have spelling,
grammar or punctuation errors-please read and re-read your blog to make sure it
makes sense.
2. Each paragraph must be 3-5 sentences in length.
3. Each blog is worth 20 points in your assessment category.
4. Each blog should be
written on the correct topic assigned in class that week.
5. Article must have
appeared in a credible newspaper (ex. LA Times, LA Opinion, New York Times,
Huffington Post) or credible magazines (ex. Time, The New Yorker, The
Economist). If you aren’t sure
about an article you have selected, please get it cleared in advance with
me.
6. You must post your blog each Friday and include
your name, the date, and the blog number.
7. Correct citation of the
article you have used. Please see
the chart below for correct citation.
